| biography:
| Operatic soprano, born in Gisborne, New Zealand. After winning many awards in New Zealand and Australia she moved to London, where she made her debut with the Royal Opera Company in 1970. She has since taken a wide range of leading roles, and in 1981 sang at the wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales. She was made a dame in 1982 and has produced many non-classical recordings. In 1989 she published Land of the Long White Cloud: Maori Myths and Legends. |
