| Soprano, born in Christchurch, New Zealand. She studied at the Sydney conservatory, and played violin in the Philharmonic Orchestra there, making her operatic debut in 1929. She toured widely, and became noted particularly for her Puccini roles. She was made a dame in 1974. |
