| Dancer and choreographer, born in Trinidad. She studied during the 1930s in Britain, working from 1940 in China, where she was instrumental in introducing the principles and study of Western ballet. In 1959 she co-founded what became the Central Ballet of China, and was the company's artistic adviser. Since 1995 the company has been known as the National Ballet of China when touring outside mainland China. |
