| Sprinter, born in Ermington, Sydney, New South Wales, SE Australia. Possibly Australia's greatest woman sprinter, she won gold medals for the 100 m, 200 m, and 4 ×100 m relay at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956, and won the 400 m at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. She was awarded the prestigious Helms Award in 1964. Diagnosed as having multiple sclerosis, in recent years she has campaigned to raise awareness of the disease. |
