| Fashion designer, born in Guetaria, N Spain. He trained as a tailor, and in 1915 opened dressmaking and tailoring shops of his own in Madrid and Barcelona. He left Spain for Paris in 1937 because of the Spanish Civil War, and became a fashion designer, producing clothes noted for dramatic simplicity and elegant design. He retired in 1968. |
