| biography:
| Rugby union player and administrator, born in Lindley, EC South Africa. He won 16 caps for South Africa in four different positions, captaining them against the 1938 British Lions. After coaching and managing Springbok touring teams, he became chairman of the South African Rugby Board in 1956, and worked for over 30 years to keep South Africa within the Rugby Union fold. The possessor of three academic doctorates, his Rugby Handbook (1970) is one of the three classic coaching texts. |
