| biography:
| Italian politician and entrepreneur, born in Venice, Veneto, NE Italy. He founded the SADE or Società Adriatica di Elettricità (Adriatic Electricity Company) in 1905. In 1919 he planned and built the huge industrial complex at Marghera, on the Venice lagoon, with the collaboration of the Fascist regime. He was governor of Tripolitania (1921–5) and finance minister (1925–8). As president of the Venice Arts Festival, he helped establish the Venice Cinema Festival, and headed the Confederazione Fascista degli Industriali (Fascist Confederation of Industrialists). After the fall of the regime he went to Switzerland. |
