| Princess of England, the youngest daughter of William the Conqueror and Matilda of Flanders. In 1080 she married Stephen-Henry, Count of Blois, and had nine children, the third of whom came to be King Stephen of England. She ruled with skill during her husband's absence on the First Crusade (1095–9) and became regent on his death (1102) until the majority of her eldest son, Theobald, in 1109. In 1118 she effected an alliance between Theobald and Henry I of England. |
