| biography:
| Daughter of John Beaufort, 1st Duke of Somerset, and great-granddaughter of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster. She married Edmund Tudor, Earl of Richmond (1455), and became the mother of Henry VII, to whom she conveyed the Lancastrian claim to the English crown. She was twice widowed before her third husband, Thomas, Lord Stanley, was instrumental in helping Henry VII assume the crown. She was a benefactress of William Caxton, and of Oxford and Cambridge. |
