| biography:
| Italian politician and prime minister (1848), born in Florence, Tuscany, NC Italy. He was an expert on agricultural and financial matters and was in charge of the grand-duchy of Tuscany's mint (1825), and also co-founded the Florence Savings Bank (1828). As interior minister, he suppressed the January 1848 rising and was briefly prime minister that same year. He was education and foreign affairs minister in 1859 and Italian senator in 1860. |
