| biography:
| Roman historian, a native of Pavia or Hostilia. He wrote a lost universal history in three books (Chronica), and a series of Lives of Famous Men (De viris illustribus), of which only 25 (mainly Greek warriors and statesmen) survive - untrustworthy, but written in a clear and elegant style. He also wrote love poems and a book of anecdotes (Exempla), and lives of the elder Cato, Atticus, and Thrasybulus. |
