| biography:
| Poet and playwright, born in Paris, France. He worked at the war ministry and as an archivist with the Théâtre Français. A Parnassian poet, his collections include Le Reliquaire (1866), Intimités (1868), and Promenades et Intérieurs (1872). His plays include Le Passant (1867) in which one act was played by Sarah Bernhardt, Luther de Crémone (1876), and a romantic drama Pour la Couronne (1895). Very influential in his day, he entered the Académie Française in 1884. |
