| Actor, born in Los Angeles, California, USA. A child of show-business parents, he appeared in silent films from an early age. He featured in The Kid (1921) and became Hollywood's first major child star, earning international fame and fortune. However, his parents squandered his money, and the ensuing legal case (1938) led ultimately to the Child Actors Bill, which established a code of practice.
