| Roman emperor, the nephew of Claudius II Gothicus and the father of Constantine the Great. He took the title of Caesar in 292, had Britain, Gaul, and Spain as his government, and, after re-establishing Roman power in Britain and defeating the Alemanni, took the additional title of Augustus in 305. |
