| Historian, born in Madrid, Spain. Also interested in law, sociology, and anthropology, he was a representative figure of the nuevo cuño (‘new impression’) generation connected with Krausism and the founders of the Instituto Libre de Enseñanza. His best-known works are Las nuevas teorías de la criminalidad (1898), La mala vida en Madrid. Estudio psico-sociológico (1901), Bandolerismo y delincuencia subversiva en la Baja Andalucia (1913), and El bandolerismo en España y México (1956). |
