| Tennis player, born in Sydney, New South Wales, SE Australia. He is regarded as the best player never to have won the Wimbledon singles title, although playing in four finals. In the course of a brilliant career he won every other major title, including the US title twice, and with Lew Hoad he won the British, US, French, and Australian doubles titles in 1956, the year in which he turned professional. He won the professional world championship in 1971 and 1972. |
