| Baseball player and manager, born in East Brookfield, Massachusetts, USA. He was catcher with various teams (1886–1916), and began his managerial career at Pittsburgh (1894–6). He moved on to Philadelphia in 1901, and stayed for 50 years. He holds the record for most years managing (53), most games won (3776), and most games lost (4025). He won World Championships in 1910–11, 1913, and 1929–30, and in 1937 was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. |
