| biography:
| Explorer and youth leader, born in Hereford, Hereford and Worcester, WC England, UK. He trained at Sandhurst Military Academy, and was commissioned into the Royal Engineers (1957). He participated in over 40 expeditions, and led the Blue Nile (1968), British Trans-Americas (1972), and Congo River (1975/84) expeditions under the aegis of the Scientific Exploration Society. He then went on to lead two major youth projects: Operation Drake (1978–80) and Operation Raleigh, which involved over 4000 young people in adventurous scientific and community projects in over 73 countries (1984–8). |
