| Actor, born in Grayshott, Hampshire, UK. He studied drama in London, worked in the West End, and went on to play a series of acclaimed character parts in film and television. He received a BAFTA nomination for his role in the television production of Tumbledown (1989), and another for Pride and Prejudice (1995), where his brooding performance as the handsome Mr Darcy attracted unprecedented public interest. Later work includes Nostromo (1996) for television, and the films The English Patient (1996), Fever Pitch (1997), Shakespeare in Love (1998), and Bridget Jones's Diary (2001). |
