| British physiologist. He studied at Cambridge, California, and Oxford universities, then worked at Cambridge (1968–79), and has been professor of physiology at Oxford since 1979. He also holds posts in Oxford as director of the Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience (1989) and associate director of the Centre in Brain and Behaviour (1991). He gave the BBC Reith lectures in 1976, and was the presenter of the BBC TV series The Mind Machine in 1988. He received the Royal Society's Michael Faraday Award in 1989. |
