| biography:
| Poet, born in Milan, Lombardy, N Italy. He published his first work Frammenti lirici in 1913 after which his experience in World War 1 initiated a period of inner turmoil mirrored in his Canti anonimi (1922) and led to his entering the priesthood (1931). Voluntary seclusion followed broken only by I canti dell'infermità (1957), which he wrote during a long illness. His works are characterized by a strong religious mysticism reminiscent of Iacopone da Todi. |
