| The son, father, and brother of Roman emperors (Tiberius, Caligula, and Claudius respectively), and heir apparent himself from AD 14. A man of great charm but mediocre ability, his sudden and suspicious death in Antioch marked a turning point in Tiberius's reign. It crystallized the growing disenchantment with the emperor, and sent his reign on its downward spiral. |
