| biography:
| Italian politician and journalist, born in Turin, Piedmont, NW Italy. He joined the Socialist Party in 1892 and wrote for the review Critica Sociale (Social Criticism). He edited the party's newspaper, Avanti! (1910–12) and also La giustizia (1922–5), the mouthpiece of the reformist wing (Partito Socialista Unitario, of which he was also leader) that had split from the party. He escaped to France in 1926, where he continued to fight Fascism. |
