| biography:
| The favourite mistress of Louis XV, born in Vaucouleurs, NE France. Brought up in a Paris convent, she won the notice of Louis XV (1768), and married Comte Guillaume du Barry before becoming official royal mistress. Her influence reigned supreme until the death of Louis in 1774, when she was dismissed from court. She lived on her estates until the Revolution when, accused of being a counter-revolutionary, she was tried by the Tribunal of Paris and guillotined. |
