| Film director, actor, and producer, born in Paris, France. Following a moderate career as an actor in the cinema and on television, he went on to produce Le Vieil Homme et l'Enfant (1967) with Michel Simon, successful with the public and the critics. He made ten more films, his greatest successes being Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources (both 1986), followed by Uranus (1991) and Germinal (1993). He was also involved in producing L'Amant (1992, director J J Annaud), La Reine Margot (1994, director P Chéreau), and Gazon Maudit (1995, director Josiane Balasko). |
