| biography:
| Aviator and engineer, born in Bursledon, Hampshire, S England, UK. He was the first Englishman to be granted a British certificate of proficiency in aviation (1910). In 1909 he founded the first British flying school at Pau, in France, and in 1910 founded his own company to build aircraft. He helped to establish London Aerodrome at Hendon (1911), and published books on the aeroplane and flying. |
