| biography:
| Composer, born in Paris, France. He studied at the Conservatoire under Messiaen and at the Berlin Hochschüle with Blacher. He was awarded the Prix de Composition at the Concours de Genève (1955) and became professor of analysis at l'Ecole Normale de Paris and professor of composition at the Conservatoire de Paris. His commissions include dodecaphonic works (in which the spirit of Satie can be detected), and chamber music, melodies, and choral pieces which illustrate his Christian faith, especially symphonies which show his taste for the large scale, including Grand Requiem (1953–4). Other works include two operas and Dracoule, a sort of opera-ballet. In addition he published Introduction à la Métatonalité (1956) and Economie Musicale. |
