| Art collector, born in Jonesboro, Tennessee, USA. Her family moved to Baltimore, MD (c.1870), where her brothers founded the Cone Mills, a textile business. She studied locally, and attended the Woman's Medical College of Baltimore, then worked in the pathology laboratory (1894–1903) of the Johns Hopkins Medical School. With her sister, Etta Cone (1870–1949), also born in Jonesboro, she established an artistic salon and began collecting antiques, textiles, and modern paintings. They amassed an impressive collection of modern and contemporary art during their trips abroad. After both sisters died, funds and their collection were bequeathed to the Baltimore Museum of Art. |
