| Italian patriot, born in Migliarina, Emilia-Romagna, N Italy. He took part in the 1820–1 revolutionary risings and was jailed. With others, he planned a revolt that would erupt simultaneously in a number of cities, but when Francesco IV, Duke of Modena, withdrew his support, Menotti decided to continue regardless. He was arrested before the start (1831) and then executed. |
