| Inventor, born near Mooresburg, Pennsylvania, USA. An apprentice printer at first, he later worked as a newspaper editor and government official. His best-known invention is the typewriter, which he developed with fellow inventors Carlos Glidden and Samuel Soulé in 1867. A patent was granted in 1868, which Sholes sold to the Remington Arms Company, who then marketed the first Remington Typewriter in 1874. |
