| British television presenter, writer, and producer. He studied English at Birmingham University, and obtained his first job in television as a newsreader with ATV in Birmingham. He went on to make his name with programmes for Independent Television, such as Tiswas (1974), OTT (1981), and Tarrant on Television (from 1989), and he began to host Capital Radio's breakfast show in 1987. In 1998 he became a household name as presenter of the TV quiz show Who Wants to be a Millionaire. His many awards include the 2001 Sony Radio Academy's gold award in recognition of his services to the industry. |
