| Writer, born in Heinzendorf, E Germany. He studied philosophy and logic at Berlin and Leipzig. He is best known for his essays Cromwell und andere Stücke (1981) and Die wahre Geschichte des Ah. Q. Stücke und Essays, which revolve around the world of white-collar workers, as well as the novel Der Tangospieler (1989), set in East Germany in 1968 during the invasion of Prague. Other work includes the plays Lasalle (1980), Der neue Menoza oder Geschichte des kumbanischen Prinzen Tandi (1982), and Der Ritter der Tafelrunde (1989). The socially critical attitude expressed in his work is never directed against East Germany specifically. |
