| biography:
| Writer, born in Wolfsberg in Kärnten, S Austria. She came from a very poor background and supported herself with embroidery until she went blind. There is much emphasis on structure in her poetry, which focuses on the poor and their suffering, and which reveals an acute insight into people's souls and minds without intellectualizing. Her works include Der Pfauneschrei (1962) and Hälfte des Herzens (1966). She was awarded the Großer OsterreichischerStaatspreis in 1970. |
