| biography:
| Writer, born in Zittau, E Germany. Becoming in 1678 school director in his home town, he wrote numerous scholastic ‘Schuldramen’ and comedies. These plays include Bäuerischer Machiavellus (1679–81) and Trauer-Spiel von dem Neapolitanischen Haupt-Rebellen Masanielo (1682–3). In his handling of moralistic satire and buffoonery elements from the ‘Narrenspiel’ he was a notable representative of the late Baroque, while prefiguring the bourgeois didactic side of the Enlightenment. |
