| Physiologist, born in Kiel, N Germany. He was a professor at Kiel (1871–1911), did research work on embryology, and the anatomy of the organs of sense (the Hensen duct in the ear), and investigated in a survey of the Atlantic the production of marine fauna which he named plankton. |
