| biography:
| Chef and writer, born in Pasadena, California, USA. She trained in Cordon Bleu cooking schools in Paris, and co-wrote the classic Mastering the Art of French Cooking (2 vols, 1961–70). Several popular television series demystified French cooking for Americans and established her as a celebrity both treasured and parodied for her forthright manner and hearty humour. Her other cookbooks include The Way to Cook (1989). |
