| biography:
| Artist, born in Hsiang T'an, SEC China. In his youth he was a carpenter and wood-carver, and took up the study of painting only at 27. He also mastered calligraphy, poetry, and seal-carving. Sometimes called ‘China's Picasso’, his art is deeply rooted in folk tradition. He painted birds, flowers, fruit, landscapes, and many other subjects with a theme from daily life previously considered to be inappropriate subjects for art. |
