| biography:
| Computer engineer, born in Kirksville, Missouri, USA. He began at Digital Equipment Corp in Maynard, MA (1960), where he worked on the PDP series of computers and became a leading expert in minicomputers. He was professor of computer science at Carnegie-Mellon (1966–72), returning to Digital (1972–83) to oversee the production of VAX. |
