| Actress, director, and producer, born in Akron, Ohio, USA. One of the founders of the Group Theatre in 1931, she began her career acting with the Theatre Guild. She also helped found the American Repertory Theatre (1946), the Actors Studio (1947), and became a director of the American National Theatre and Academy (ANTA) series. As producer, her works include One Touch of Venus (1943), Brigadoon (1947), and Sweet Bird of Youth (1959). |
