| Writer, and visual artist, born in Utrecht, W Netherlands. She studied Dutch language and literature before entering art school. In her early works this link with art becomes visible through the emblems and drawings which accompany her writing. With De markiezin (1987, The Marquise), she made her debut as a ‘real’ novelist. Her writing, which is autobiographical in nature, is characterized by its large imaginative power and uninhibited observations. |
