| Stockbroker, born in Woodland, California, USA. A lawyer's son, he sold chickens and eggs door-to-door as a child, graduated from the Stanford School of Business (1959), and worked as a mutual funds manager before establishing his own brokerage house in San Francisco (1971). He built it into one of the nation's leading brokerages by offering discount fees and other inducements to small investors, and wrote How to Be Your Own Stockbroker (1984). |
