| Electrical engineer and inventor, born in the USA. He worked for a radio station after graduating from San Jose State University (1948). In the early 1950s, as a researcher for the Ampex Corp, he led the team that invented the modern videotape recorder, first used by a television network in 1956. He was vice-president for advance development at Ampex until his retirement (1975–86). |
