| Conductor, born in Strasbourg, NE France. After a long career as a violinist, he made his conducting debut in Paris (1932) and three years later organized his own orchestra there. He was conductor of the Boston Symphony (1949–62) and then organized the Orchestre de Paris, but died on tour with that group in Virginia. He was known for allowing his players room to express themselves, producing warm and musical performances. |
