| Artist, born in Paris, France. His service in the French navy in the South Pacific inspired a number of exotic drawings. His fame derives from a series of views of Paris which he began c.1850, ranging from the conventional to the fantastic, which were not popularly received. He died in the asylum at Charenton, believing he was Christ. |
