| Goldsmith and jeweller, founder of Tiffany & Co, born in Killingly, Connecticut, USA. He began dealing in fancy goods in New York City in 1837, and by 1883 was one of the largest manufacturers of silverware in the USA. His work reflected current tastes, with an accent on the traditional and historical. He held official appointments to 23 royal patrons, including the Tsar of Russia, Queen Victoria, and the Shah of Persia. He later marketed some of the Art Nouveau lamps made by his son, Louis Tiffany. |
