| biography:
| King of Naples and Sicily, the son of Charles I, Prince of Salerno. Captured by the Aragonese during the Vespers Wars, he was then freed by the Treaty of Campofranco (1288) and crowned king by Pope Niccolò IV (1289). He succeeded in obtaining the crown of Hungary for his son, Charles Martel, but lost Sicily to the Aragonese by the Peace of Caltabellotta (1302). |
