| Composer, born in Strasbourg, NE France. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire and joined a piano manufacturing firm, until he was appointed pianist to the Empress Eugénie, the wife of Napoleon III. A prolific composer of dance music, several of his waltzes, notably the Skaters Waltz and Estudiantina, remain popular. |
