| biography:
| Painter and lithographer, born in London, UK. He arrived in Sydney in 1884, worked as a lithographer, and contributed to the Sydney Illustrated News. In 1888 he joined Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton, and Frederick McCubbin in their camp at Box Hill, Victoria. He went to Paris (1890), and later to London, where he was influenced by Whistler and the ‘Japonais’ cult. From then until his death he worked in delicate water-colours on silk, and he is especially noted for his fan designs. |
