| Cockney comedian of Scottish descent. He spent his childhood in London's East End, went on the stage in 1875, and immortalized the songs ‘Two Lovely Black Eyes’ (1886) and ‘The Man who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo’ (1890). In 1928 he published the autobiographical The Man who Broke the Bank. |
