| Violinist and composer, born in Toulouse, S France. He was a pupil of Rivier and Milhaud at the Conservatoire de Paris, to whom he dedicated Lieu de Lumiere in 1972. He worked in radio, which he used to propagate contemporary music. His compositions brought him numerous distinctions, including the Prix de Rome (1951) for Et l'Homme vit se rouvrir les portes and the Académie Charles Cros for Erszebet (1984). With his wife, Odette Decaux, he created M'zab in 1973, one of his most important works for piano, which shows an African influence. He drew subjects from the works of Federico Garcia Lorca, including Noces de Sang, his second opera. |
